Book My Flight with Points
How Do Award Bookings Work?
Booking a flight with points and miles is a very different mindset than booking with dollars. In exchange for being “free” you will likely need to be flexible in another way — either dates, destination or cabin class (premium vs. economy). Think about the aspects that are most important to you and we’ll look for flights that fit your most important criteria. Here are the factors to consider and how to think about them:
-
Economy seats are considerably easier to book than premium economy, business or first class seats. If you're ok flying economy, you'll be able to book closer to your departure date and you'll be more likely to find multiple seats together on the same flight. If you'd like to fly business (or first class!) it is critical that you book as far in advance as possible and know that you may only find one or two seats on the same plane.
-
When searching for award flights, it helps to be flexible on your arrival and departure dates if you want to fly anything other than economy. The more flexible you are on your dates, the higher the likelihood of finding a flight that works well with your travel plans. For best results, award flights should be booked 10-12 months in advance, regardless of which cabin type you're flying.
-
When deciding on your arrival and departure airports, it's best to choose a region rather than a specific city, especially if you'd like to fly in a premium cabin. If you know you'd like to visit Europe but you're open to which country you'd like to visit or you're ok with taking a short connecting flight to your final destination, the chances are exponentially higher that we'll be able to find something that suits your needs. Alternatively, if you prefer to spend fewer points and are comfortable flying economy, the availability of award seats will be higher.
-
Airlines limit the number of award seats they make available and may only release 1-2 seats on any given flight. More economy seats are released than business and very few first class seats are made available. Depending on the number of people in your travel party, you may need to split up to ensure that you're able to fly on your desired dates and in your preferred seat class.
-
Economy seats can be booked for as few as 10k points each way and business (lay flat seats) will require closer to 80k points each way, depending on the destination. All points are not created equal. We'll ask you how many points you have for your trip and in which currency (Chase, American Express, Capital One, CitiBank or a specific airline). The quantity and type of points that you have on hand will determine which airlines we can book with and how much the seats will cost.
